Consolidated PBY-5A Catalina c/n 300 PH-PBY, painted to resemble a Catalina of the former Ducth Naval Air Service with pseudo registration 16-218 took flight again on 19 April 2013 after having spent the winter in its hangar at Lelystad airport in The Netherlands (EHLE). This photo was taken after take-off for another flight a day later. The aircraft is named after the last Dutch sea-hero, rear admiral and former navy pilot Karel Doorman who commanded the Allied Combined Striking Force against the Japanese navy in the Battle of the Java Sea on 27 and 28 February 1942. Karel Doorman perished in the Battle.
