This single seat fighter never saw service with the RAF, but it did serve with the Indian Air Force, and the Finnish Air Force. The RAF did take on the two seat trainer version in 1959. The Gnat became famous for the 'Yellowjacks' Display Team from the Central Flying School, which went on to become the Red Arrows in 1964. The Gnat was retired from the RAF in 1974.
