Built as a single seat fighter, it carried out 20 operational sorties during its service with 33 Squadron, 135 Wing of 2nd Tactical Air Force, based at Merville, Northern France. Then she was issued to 412 Squadron Royal Canadian Air Force. She was then selected to be converted to a two seat trainer, by order of the Irish Air Corps.......By the end of 1944 33 Squadron had traded in the Spitfire for Tempests. In 1970, 33 Squadron became the first Puma Helicopter Squadron of the RAF which was based at Odiham, I know it well. The Pumas are now based at Benson along with 230 'Tiger 'Squadron, who have 9 helicopters. Squadron 230 ceased flying in Northern Ireland on the 20th November 09.
