The image was taken from the starboard midships deck of the P&O ship Arcadia...............Hello Sailor! just after the RAF Hercules, marked 885 or 865 ? had taken off. The 83,000 ton ship was moving off of the birth but had to stop, until the Hercules had cleared the airport zone, this is a standing order for all shipping. As the Hercules climbed out, the Dambusters theme was played out over the ships load speakers, and all the passengers and crew were waving union jack flags, the people of Gibraltar are very pro British. The Airport is owned by the Ministry of Defense for use by the RAF. It is used for scheduled civilian flights, and it has the distinction of being the closest airport to the city it serves, being only 500metres from Gibraltar's city center. The airport was constructed during World War II upon the colony's race course, and it has been extended by reclaiming land from the sea. Airlines who use Gibraltar are, Air Malta, Andalus Lineas, British Airways, Easy Jet main user, Monarch Airlines and of coarse the RAF. The road which connects Gibraltar to Spain is closed when the runway is in use, but it would make a good game of chicken!
