Flying Legends Press Preview presented, Christopher Cartledge, Keith Quilter and Peter George, Iconic Fighter Pilots of the Goodyear Corsair at the Imperial War Museum Duxford EGSU Aerodrome 27.6.2012.
During WWII Keith flew many missions in his F4U Corsair fighter, first in attacks on the German battleship 'Tirpitz' in Norway in 1944, he then served with the British Pacific Fleet attacking Japanese aerdromes.
Christopher was flying Corsairs with 1842 Squadron in Brunswick, Main USA. He then joined HMS Formidable in the Irish Sea in August 1944, dive-bombing the German battleship 'Tirpitz' and related coastal targets. For his part in the attacks on 'Tirpitz' Christopher was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross.
Peter George joined 1850 Squadron in January 1945 from 1849 Squadron. He joined HMS Vengeance and arrived in the Pacific on the 22nd July 1945. When the atom bombs were dropped Peter was sent to Hong Kong with a mobile hospital. Peter went on to flying duty patrolling over the Chines border as far as Canton up the Pearl River.
