Many moons ago in Red Deer Alberta, I saw a  Canadian DC-3/C-47 with Jato bottles  The photos I took were prints and I have lost them. I ran across this unknown photo and want to share it with you all.

I also found an Old US newsreel, showing a Jato assisted take off from a mining town in Nicuragua on youTube

JATO is an acronym for jet-fuel assisted take off. It is a system for helping overloaded aircraft into the air by providing additional thrust in the form of small rockets. The term is used interchangeably with the (more specific) term RATO, for Rocket-Assisted Take Off (or, in RAF parlance, RATOG for Rocket-Assisted Take Off Gear).
