As part of the American program MAP (Military Assistance Program), the Royal Danish Air Force received 25 F-104g and 4 TF-104g from Canadair in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

62-12341 (R-341) had its first flight on April 13, 1964 at Canadair's (now Bombardier) factory. Then it was flown to Langley AFB in preparation for shipping to Denmark. R-341 arrived at Noerresundby port (close to the Aalborg Base) on 23 November 1964 and flew for the Royal Danish Air Force the first time on December 16, 1964.
On March 21,1985 R-341 crashed in the sea about 20 km (12mi) north-northwest of Hirtshals Jutland during an exercise. The pilot was killed. The cause was unknown. R-341 had flown 3874 hours and 50 minutes at the time of the accident.
