Fokker F-27, TF-FIJ Flugfelag Islands, taking off from CPH in the late 60's.
Flew that bird around the North Atlantic for many hours waiting for the weather to break over Vagar (Faroe Islands) We took off from CPH and headed for Bergen for a refuel, when we got to Vagar the cloud cover was hiding the airport. We flew around the Islands for 2-4 hours waiting for the clouds to break. We headed back to Stavanger for an overnight. Next morning we were off again and the weather stay closed, so we proceeded to East Iceland and a small Airport I think it was Breiddalsvik (gravel runway) with a motel that had 50 rooms, just enough for a full F-27 with crew. At 2am there was a knock on the door and we were told that the weather had cleared on Vagar, we were departing in 45minutes. We made it into Vagar after about 52 hours of travel. Distance 725 Nautical Miles.
