The De-Havilland Mosquito CF-HML was built in 1947 at Airspeed Works in Christchurch, Hampshire. The RAF serial number, was VR 796. The aircraft was flown to No.22 MU storage depot at RAF Silloth in Cumbria – total time 15.50 hours – where it sat in storage alongside other ‘Mozzies’. In 1955, a Canadian company called Spartan Air Services bought ten De-Havilland Mosquitoes for the sum of £1,500. Some of the aircraft were modified for the ferry flight to Ottawa and the rest were left in the UK for spare parts. CF-HML spent from 1955 to 1963 conducting high altitude photography and aerial survey in the Arctic and North West Territories.
