The aircraft was grounded in July 1963 after 312 aerial survey flights and a total of 616.05 flight hours. Soon after, it was donated to the Royal Canadian Air Cadets, 647 Sqn, located in Kapuskasing Northern Ontario. The plan, was to return it to airworthy condition. This, however, never materialised, principally due to the lack of hanger space and severe winter conditions.
CF-HML eventually ended up in the town of Mission, British Columbia, where a major rebuild and repair of the airframe was undertaken by skilled wood and aircraft engineers. Completed in 1984 it was again stored until it was bought by its current owner in 2001.
