Type: C-49J  Model Year: 1941 Construction Number: 6315

The Southern Cross is a C49J.  Delivered to the Army in 1942. Converted to a DC-3 in 1944 and used by the Department of Transportation up into the 1970s. During that time the engines were converted to 1820-76D making it one of the very few with 1475 hp on each wing.
