Retired KC-135 Suntanning
This KC-135 Tanker is retired and enjoying the sun at the PIMA Aerospace Museum in Tuscon, AZ. Within too long it will be joined by more retired tankers when the new KC-46 replaces the greying fleet.
Serving with the US Air Force since 1957, it is one of just six military fixed wing aircraft with over 50 years of continuous service with its original operator. The KC-135 is supplemented by the larger KC-10. Despite increased maintenance costs, studies conclude many of the aircraft could be flown until 2040.
