S-38, Osa Ark, Flying Yacht, Sikorsky replica from 1929, at Hahnweide  Old Timers Meet 2011

The Sikorsky S-38 was an American twin-engined 8-seat amphibious aircraft. It was sometimes called "The Explorer's Air Yacht" and was Sikorsky's first widely produced amphibious flying boat which in addition to serving successfully for Pan American Airways and the U.S. Army, also had numerous private owners who received notoriety for their exploits.

A total of 110 aircraft were built, manufactured originally by the Sikorsky Manufacturing Corporation of Long Island, New York, and by the Sikorsky Aviation Corporation in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

Hi Flyvertosset,

I put a link to this photo in the caption with my image of Osa's Ark at the Aviodrome: www.flightglobal.com/.../sikorksy-s-38b-at-ehle-23092012-98209.aspx

In John Stroud's The World's Civil Marine Aircraft he states that 114 S-38's were built. What is your source for the 101?

Regards,

EnoAero

Hi EnoAeroPics,

The number I have is 110, the 101 is a typo. I got my info from EAA.

Will put a link to your photo when I have a minute.
