The first WestJet Encore Flight arrives in Victoria, YYJ, BC
WestJet today launched its new regional service, called Encore, serving smaller communities who’ve been desperate to upgrade themselves as tourist destinations and build out their airports and attract new business. Encore will serve such cities as Nanaimo and Fort St. John B.C., as well as Saskatoon.
The airline is increasing its fleet with one new aircraft a month and will eventually have 40 Dash 8-Q400 NextGen in their fleet. They have an option for 20 more.
They’re holding big welcome parties with entertainment and face-painting (presumably not for the pilots) and all that in Nanaimo, which is welcoming a flight from Calgary, and Victoria, which has a flight to Vancouver.
The Q400 NextGen turboprop airliner, which is built at Bombardier's Toronto, Ontario facility, is the most recent development in the evolution of the Q400 aircraft, and the advanced successor to Bombardier's Dash 8/Q-Series family of aircraft. Optimized for short-haul operations, the "comfortably greener," 70- to 80-seat Q400 NextGen aircraft is a large, fast, quiet and fuel-efficient turboprop. It provides an ideal balance of passenger comfort and operating economics with a reduced environmental footprint.
