April 9, 1964 - Brilliantly outlined against the night sky at Cape Kennedy, the first Gemini-Titan II in the nation's second manned space flight program, Project Gemini, towers 109 feet above its launch pad. During a series of pre-flight tests, Martin Company technicians lower the erector, at left, revealing the entire flight vehicle for the first time since the spacecraft was joined. The tubing at left carries the storable propellants to the Gemini-Titan II launch vehicle when it is ready for fueling. Martin builds the Gemini-Titan II for the Air Force Space Systems Division which has responsibilty for launch vehicle development and launch operations in the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Project Gemini.
