(Date and year unknown) - Apollo Applications Program (AAP) plans for clustering in earth orbit a 10,000 cubic foot space manned workshop, mapping and survey system and solar astronomical telescope with four uprated Saturn I launch vehicles. Total weight in orbit will be approximately 96,000 pounds. AAP-1 will place the Manned Apollo command and service modules and mapping and survey system equipment in orbit. AAP-2 will orbit the unmanned workshop. It consists of the spent second stage (S-IVB) of the Uprated Saturn I and an airlock unit. The AAP-1 crew will rendezvous and dock their spacecraft with the workshop by entering the stage through the airlock unit. After about four weeks, the crew will return to Earth in the command module. AAP-3 will launch a second crew to enter the workshop. AAP-4 will place the Apollo solar telescope in orbit. The orbiting crew will dock to the telescope equipment for about 8 weeks of space operations. After the second crew returns to Earth, the clustered spacecraft will remain in orbital storage for further manned operations.
