Bell Airacobra I, AH601 was taken on charge by 601 Squadron on 10th October 1941. It was thought apt that the Commanding Officer, Squadron Leader E.J. Gracie, should adopt this machine as his own and accordingly wears the Squadron Leader's rank pennant in Light Blue, Red and Dark Blue on each cockpit door together with the nickname Skylark XIII.
