Rear fuselage and tail section of B-36D, 49-2658, Lakenheath, January 17th, 1951, This aircraft was destroyed in a mid-air collision when it was hit just aft of the cockpit section by an F-51 Mustang over Oklahoma on April 27th, 1951. The bomber began to break up soon after the collision, and hit the ground in three major sections. Thirteen of the crew were killed but the four survivors came from the tail, most jumping out when the tail separated from the center section. The Oklahoma ANG Mustang pilot was also killed in the collision.
