A Maurice Farman Shorthorn. This is the type of aircraft that most of the pilots of the Royal Flying Corps received their initial flying training during the first years of the First World War. It was capable of flying at 'a mile a minute', in still air with a 70 h.p. Renault engine and had a stalling speed of 32 mph. The pilot had an unobstructed view from within the forward projected nacelle.
