In WW2, the (current) EC2/30 squadron 'Normandie-Niemen' was based in the Soviet-Union, fighting on the eastern front against Germany.Throughout the years, they kept a close relation and for the 70th  anniversary of the squadron, a Red Star was painted on the Rafale. The green/grey scheme on top, resembles the scheme of the YAK fighters they flew in those days.
