"During the Battle of Britain, the unmistakable sound of the Merlin Engine was heard daily across the south of England as the RAF engaged Luftwaffe fighters in dogfights. Accepting the award, Rolls-Royce's chief test pilot Phil O'Dell paid tribute to the famous engine, which powered not only the Spitfire, but the Hurricane,Lancaster,Mosquito and P-51 Mustang.
