Both the CAMS 36bis and the CAMS 38, F-ESFD, seen here, sat very low in the water. A participant in the 1923 Schneider Trophy Race, during the take-off run in the contest on 28 September, the starboard tailplane and elevator were damaged by choppy water and Hurel had to retire when the Hispano-Suiza engine began to vibrate and lose power on the second lap.
