F.W. Gooden passed his airmanship tests in a Caudron biplane on 3rd June 1913 at the Ewen School, Hendon, receiving Aviator's Certificate No.506. He was to take over from Geoffrey de Havilland as Chief Test Pilot to the Royal Aircraft Factory at Farnborough.
