A Sikorsky S-76 helicopter carrying 10 passengers and two crew crashed in the Gulf of Mexico on 6 September after departing the Rowan Companies oil rig Bob Keller. All 12 occupants were rescued by the US Coast Guard. A survivor says the engines stopped.
Estonia is investigating the 10 August crash of a Copterline S-76 into the Baltic after take-off from Tallinn, which killed all 14 on board. The 17 June crash of an S-76C on take-off from New York’s 34th Street heliport, in which eight people were injured, is still under investigation.
