Boeing plans to test a General Electric GE90-115B-powered 777-300ER with modified full-authority digital engine control software allowing the engine to produce full 115,000lb (510kN) take-off thrust at temperatures up to and above 38˚C (100˚F). The “thrust bump” qualification tests are being undertaken in response to requests from Emirates and other carriers for guaranteed hot weather take-off performance margins.
Flight tests, originally scheduled to take place in Alice Springs, Australia around 29-30 November, have been delayed for around a week until the weather “heats up down-under”, says the company.
