IRIS-T makes German air force debut

The German air force formally accepted BGT’s IRIS-T short-range air-to-air missile into service with its Eurofighter strike aircraft early this month during a ceremony at Laage airbase. The IRIS-T design will arm the Eurofighter in German, Italian and Spanish service and is also on order to equip Greek and Norwegian Lockheed Martin F-16s, Spanish Boeing EF-18s and Sweden’s Saab JAS39 Gripens. The weapon has a range of 25km (13.5nm), says the German air force.
