Pilots at Luxembourg-based Cargolux today began a ‘zero tolerance’ work-to-rule campaign to protest the latest contract proposal put forward by the freight operator’s management.

Under the campaign, pilots will work only in accordance with the exact terms of their current collective bargaining agreement, which became amendable at the end of 1999, says the Association luxembourgeoise des pilotes de ligne (ALPL). “Pilots will not increase their duty time because of delays and they will not work on their days off or during vacation time,” the pilots union adds.

The ALPL, which represents 90% of Cargolux’s 340 pilots, says the second and final offer put forward by management is “unacceptable”. The union is fighting to increase pilot rest time and also wants to “participate in the financial success of the company”, says the union.

The ALPL adds that no official management response to the work-to-rule campaign has been received. A meeting is scheduled to be held between the two sides on 13 January.
