The US Department of State is blocking attempts by Spain to sell military transport aircraft to Venezuela because of security concerns. Spanish EADS subsidiary EADS Casa has a contract with the Venezuelan government to supply C-295s and CN-235s. Spain is believed to be intending to proceed, replacing the US technology with components from another source. A US Department of State official confirms: “The USA has denied licences to transfer US technology used in aircraft that Spanish companies contracted to sell to Venezuela after determination that these transfers are not consistent with US foreign policy interests.”
