Boeing plans to reorganise the Integrated Defense Systems (IDS) unit into three new profit and loss centres, the company announced today.

The restructuring consolidates IDS into three sectors – Precision Engagement and Mobility Systems; Networks and Space Systems; and Support Systems. Each sector comprises units previously grouped under “customer-facing” sectors such as Air Force Systems; Army Systems; and Naval Systems, which are now eliminated.

Precision Engagement and Mobility Systems, to be headed by John Lockhard, includes most conventional military programmes, such as global strike, mobility, rotorcraft and airborne anti-submarine warfare and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance.

Roger Krone, formerly head of army systems, will lead the networks and space systems sector, which will have oversight over combat systems, space and expendable launches, missile defence, command, control and communications networks, intelligence systems and space exploration.

Finally, Support Systems, to be led by Pat Finneran, will include modifications and upgrades, material management, training systems, international business operations and advanced logistics systems.

Boeing also announced that George Muellner, formerly vice president of air force systems, has been shifted to lead a new unit called Advanced Defense and Security Systems, which is to include Phantom Works.
