Aeroflot dons Fokker

Russian regional carrier Aeroflot-Don is set to introduce Fokker 100s after securing domestic clearance to operate the
type, writes Tom Zaitsev in Moscow.Director Mikhail Kritsky says one leased Fokker 100 will enter revenue service in May with three more to follow before the end of the year. The carrier, which is based in Rostov-on-Don, wants to use the aircraft on its premier services to Moscow as well as on intra-CIS and European routes.

In the absence of certification of the Fokker 100 in Russia, Aeroflot-Don is understood to have invoked article 83 of the Chicago Convention to be able to operate the aircraft. “This clause effectively allows us to have a waiver on domestic certification,” says Kritsky.
