Air Pacific leans towards 787 in order battle

Air Pacific is poised to announce an order for five widebodies – either Airbus A350s or Boeing 787s.

“We are in the final stages of contracting,” says John Campbell, chief executive of the Fiji-based airline, who confirms that the deal will include a firm order for five widebodies and purchase rights for a further three aircraft, for delivery from 2011.

Air Pacific was considering proposals for A350-900s and 787-9s and, according to industry sources in Fiji and others close to the airline, the carrier appears to be intent on ordering 787s rather than A350s.
