Collision suspected in satellite failure

Russia’s NPO PM-built Express AM11 communications satellite, launched in April 2004, has suffered a major malfunction. Preliminary analysis indicates a “sudden external action” on 24 March, which could have been a collision with space debris or a micrometeorite, caused instantaneous decompression of the thermal control system.
