Nimrod shows flare in test

A BAE Systems Nimrod MRA4 maritime reconnaissance and attack aircraft recently released 50 flares in a test flight over the Aberporth range in Wales. The trial of the defensive aids subsystems was part of the MRA4’s mission system test programme.

The MRA4 acquisition has been approved by the UK Ministry of Defence’s Investment Approvals Board, and ministerial backing is expected to follow within the next few weeks. The MoD has also approved the continued use of the RAF’s three Nimrod R1 airframes to accommodate its future Project Helix electronic intelligence system.
