The US Air Force is investigating the cause of a 3 April crash in which a Lockheed C-5A Galaxy transport was written off at Dover AFB, Delaware.
All 17 crew and passengers aboard the 33-year-old transport survived the crash landing, which occurred just short of the runway threshold as its crew attempted to return to base soon after take-off.

The aircraft’s tail section detached during the heavy landing, which also resulted in its fuselage and nose sections separating as it came to a halt.
The crash is the first loss of a C-5 since a fatal accident at Ramstein, Germany, in August 1990.
