Picture: Allegheny heritage Airbus A319 added to US Airways fleet

The latest US Airways “heritage jet” to emerge is an Airbus A319 (pictured below) sporting Allegheny Airlines markings.

The carrier operated as Allegheny between 1953 and 1979. It last month unveiled an aircraft in the livery of Pacific Southwest Airlines and will unveil additional heritage liveries in coming weeks.

Allegheny Airlines began as cargo carrier All American Aviation in 1939, then renamed All American Airways in 1949 before bring renamed Allegheny Airlines in 1952. Then Allegheny changed its name in 1979 to USAir, closing the chapter on the carrier until now.

The livery is based on that used on Allegheny Airlines' McDonnell-Douglas DC-9-30s circa 1970 (pictured below)
