Embraer launches E-190 Lineage 1000 ultra-large business jet at EBACE

Embraer launched the new ultra-large Lineage 1000 at EBACE this evening, its latest attack on the business aviation market.

The lineage is the executive version of the company’s E-190, an example of which is on display in the static park. The new aircraft is in “a class of its own” according to Luis Carlos Affonso, Embraer’s senior vice–president, executive aviation.

With a larger cabin size than both the Airbus A318 Elite and the Boeing Business Jet, the company anticipates that the long-range1000 will be a strong competitor to both models. The aircraft will have an NBAA IFR range of 7, 780km (4,200nm). “We knew the range had to be above 4,000nm,” says Affonso. “Customers are demanding longer ranges, so we catered for that market.” The company says the largest market for the new jets is likely to be eastern Europe and the Middle East.

The 1000 will have a top speed of Mach 0.82, a ceiling of 41,000ft (12,500m) and a maximum takeoff weight of 50,300kg (110,890lb). It will be powered by two General Electric CF34s.

Because the airframe is identical to that of the 190, Embraer expects the certification process to run smoothly, “This is a low-risk programme,” says Affonso. “Aerodynamically, this is the same machine as the 190. Our big task is the development of the interior. In this sense this programme is no different to what we did with the Legacy. We already have experience in developing a business version of one of our commercial airliners.”
