Turkish Airlines closes on alliance decision

David Kaminski-Morrow / Paris

Newly-privatised Turkish Airlines (THY) is intending to make a decision on joining one of the main airline alliances in the next two months.
Speaking to ATI at the IATA Annual General Meeting in Paris, Turkish Airlines president and CEO Temel Kotil said that the carrier is concentrating on developing its Istanbul Ataturk hub which, he believes, will provide an alliance with valuable regional access.
“Over the next three or four years we’ll turn Istanbul into an efficient hub,” he says, adding that the carrier will focus on strengthening regional routes with high-frequency connections.
Kotil points out that, by joining an alliance, Turkish Airlines would be able to feed its niche links with the Middle East and Central Asia regions.
