Boeing fuels speculation over new VIP 787 variant with order through BBJ division

Boeing has potentially sold its first VIP-configured versions of the 787 with an order for two of the types through its executive sales division, Boeing Business Jets (BBJ).

The manufacturer's order summary for the period until 1 August shows the order for the two aircraft listed under BBJ, which was established as a joint venture with General Electric to sell business jet versions of Next Generation 737s. It is the first time the division has been listed as ordering an aircraft other than a 737 variant.

Airbus's rival division, Airbus Corporate and Government Sales has grown out of the Airbus Corporate Jetliner division established to sell the eponymous A319 ACJ, but now handles all VIP requests for Airbus types.

GE is one of two engine suppliers for the 787 with its GEnx. It is not clear whether any VIP 787 would be made available with rival Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 powerplants.

The manufacturer also booked three orders for the 787 from an unidentified customer last week, adding to the speculation.
