Northrop Grumman and Selex Sensors Airborne Systems will start a three-week series of flight trials in September or October using a Royal Netherlands Air Force Boeing AH-64 Apache attack helicopter equipped with pylon-mounted Nemesis directional infrared countermeasures turrets.
Delayed from June due to operational commitments in Afghanistan, the work will boost the aircraft's current self-protection suite of missile and radar warning receivers and flare dispensers by offering protection against laser-guided missiles.
In-flight vibration testing of the new configuration was completed during May in collaboration with Denmark's Terma and the Netherlands' National Aerospace Laboratory.
