Italian regional carrier My Way Airlines, which operates as Myair, has placed a firm order for 19 Bombardier CRJ900 aircraft in a deal that could convert as many as 15 units to a larger derivative - the CRJ900X - should the manufacturer launch such a programme.

My Way will use the General Electric CF34-powered twinjets on domestic and regional routes to supplement the carrier’s Airbus A320 services within Europe and the Middle East, says Bombardier in a statement.

The contract is valued at about $702 million using CRJ900 list prices, adds the airframer. The airline had earlier indicated a preference for Q400 turboprops but today announced the jet order.

“We were attracted to the Bombardier CRJ900 aircraft because of its low operating costs, quick turnaround times and outstanding passenger comfort,” says My Way president Carlo Bernini in the same release.

“The CRJ900 jet is the ideal aircraft for our low-cost operations,” he notes, adding: “I also want to emphasize the environmentally friendly nature of the CRJ900. Emissions and noise are well below those permitted by international agreement, and fuel consumption has been reduced considerably.”
