Canadian start-up Porter Airlines began revenue services last week with synchronised flights from Toronto City Centre airport and Ottawa-Hull. Both flights, operated by its first two Bombardier Dash 8 Q400s, departed at 07:00 on 23 October (see below).

The two flights mark the launch of Porter's first service, a 10-times-daily weekday shuttle between its Toronto base and Canada's capital. The airline has been set up by Canadian regional airline veteran Robert Deluce, who is president and chief executive of the carrier. "We're looking forward to adding destinations in the coming months," he says.

Porter has plans to operate up to 17 city pairs within a 925km (500nm) radius of its home airport, including US destinations. The airline plans to take delivery of up to 18 more Q400s.
