Japan Airlines (JAL) has taken delivery of the first of up to 40 new Boeing 737s steming from an order placed in May last year.

The first aircraft is a 737-800 seating 165 passengers in a two-class layout, featuring blended winglets.
The original deal, nominally valued at $5.3 billion, covered 30 firm aircraft and ten options. The aircraft are primarily replacing Boeing MD-80/90s. JAL still has a fleet of older 737-400s flown by JAL Express and Japan TransOcean air.
