Libyan Airways has formally put up for sale nearly 30 ageing aircraft from its fleet, most of them now inactive.
The airline, which has been rebranded from Libyan Arab Airlines, is selling eight Boeing 727-200s and three Fokker F28s, plus an Airbus A310-200 and a 707-320. Also included in the disposal are 15 Fokker F27 turboprops.
Almost all of the aircraft are stored or parked, and are 20 to 30 years old. The carrier has publicly offered the aircraft and their spares for sale. According to the Flight Acas database, Libyan has two A310-200s, four 707-320s, 10 727-200s, 15 F27s and five F28s in its fleet.
The state-run airline has been intending to renew its fleet, following the lifting of US sanctions in 2004, but has yet to reach any firm agreement with aircraft manufacturers.
Libyan Airways operates some international services using leased Airbus A300-600s and A320s.
