Delta Connection Embraer E-170 slid off Cleveland runway Sunday, one of the type's first safety incident

No injuries have been reported after an Embraer 170, conducting a Delta Connection service, struck a fence at Cleveland Hopkins airport in Ohio after sliding off the runway yesterday.

The accident is one of the first serious occurrences involving the type.

Said to have been operating a Shuttle America flight from Delta’s Atlanta hub the aircraft reportedly touched down at Cleveland at 15:14 but careered off the end of runway 28.

Weather data at the time showed heavy snow conditions. The aircraft is said to have hit a localiser antenna before colliding with the airport’s perimeter fence and coming to rest. The extent of damage to the twin-jet is unclear.

None of the 70 passengers and four crew members on board suffered injury.
