The supersonic L-15 is being developed by China's Hongdu Aeronautical Industry, which also produces the K-8 under co-operation with CATIC and the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex. The new fly-by-wire L-15 is being promoted to meet a Chinese air force advanced trainer requirement, a decision on which could be made later this year. The twin turbofan-powered aircraft conducted its first flight in March 2006 and is expected to be evaluated by the air force around mid-year.
