Airbus has started painting the first A380 for launch customer Singapore Airlines in a further step towards delivering the first aircraft in October this year.
The work is expected to take three weeks at Airbus' paint shop in Hamburg, Germany. About 3,600l of chromate-free paint will be applied to the 3,100m² surface area of the A380. Each layer measures 0.120mm thick and can withstand temperature differences of 100 degrees Celsius.
Singapore Airlines has 19 A380s on firm order and will rceive the first four aircraft off the production line.
