Alenia Aeronautica has delivered to Boeing the first horizontal stabiliser of the new 787 Dreamliner. The stabiliser, manufactured at Alenia’s Grottaglie plant, has been transferred by Boeing’s 747LCF Dreamlifter.

The stabiliser consists of two monolithic cocured boxes and a central junction base. It is 20 metres long and, like the 787 fuselage and wings, is made of carbon fibre materials. The cocured box of the 787’s horizontal stabiliser is the biggest composite monolithic structure ever built for a commercial airplane.

 
This delivery completes the first set of components made by Alenia for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, the most technologically advanced aircraft in commercial aviation.

Alenia is manufacturing 14% of the 787 structure, Italy’s biggest ever share in a commercial jet aircraft programme. It has already delivered two fuselage sections to Boeing.
