Boeing is optimistic that it will secure more 787 (pictured) orders by year-end and is aiming to exceed the pre-entry into service sales performance of its current model 737 aircraft.
Speaking during a media briefing in Seattle, Boeing VP sales and marketing operations Marty Bentrott said: “We’re well over 500 airplanes at this particular juncture and we could be significantly higher than that for the rest of this year, so a tremendous start for the 787 programme.
“When the first 737NG entered service there were over 700 aircraft on order and I think that we’re going to be ahead of that with the 787.”
Boeing has accrued 568 firm orders for the 787, which is due to enter service with launch customer All Nippon Airways in 2008.
