Dassault has selected the new 10,000lb thrust-class (45kN) Rolls-Royce RB282-3 to power its future Falcon super mid-size business jet, putting an end to months of speculation.
The new centreline Rolls-Royce turbofan was selected over the Honeywell HTF10000, Snecma Silvercrest and other engines although the company is keeping details of the US-led RB282 engine programme under wraps.
The future Falcon is expected to be launched by the end of the year and enter service in 2012. The aircraft will replace the Honeywell TFE731-powered Falcon 50EX (seen here) at the bottom of the airframer's range.
Dassault Aviation chairman and chief executive Charles Edelstenne says: "With the certification and first deliveries of the ultra-long-range Falcon 7X complete, Dassault is focusing on pre-developing a new super mid-sized Falcon. Other major technological choices will be finalised within the next 12 months."
