Billion-hour milestone for large P&W engines

Pratt & Whitney’s fleet of large commercial engines has passed the billion flight hours mark. More than 17,000 Pratt & Whitney commercial engines are installed with 800 customers in 150 countries.

Speaking in Paris, company president Todd Kallman said: “Pratt & Whitney powers more than 40% of the world’s passenger aircraft and we continue to invest in our current fleet, developing new technologies to keep our products on the cutting edge of jet propulsion with increased durability and environmental performance.”

Pratt & Whitney’s large commercial engines in service include the PW6000, PW4000, PW2000, JT8D, JT9D, and JT3D engine families. The company offers technology upgrades for all products including the QuietEagle noise reduction system for the JT8D engine and Advantage70 that increases performance and reduces fuel burn for the PW4000-100 engine model.
